SSG at Spiel '22
Updated: Nov 3, 2022

In an attempt at a return to normality, Surprised Stare Games will once again have a stand at Essen Spiel! We've already shipped our stock and banners to a warehouse in Essen, so all we have to do is battle our way across the Dunkirk dunes, and forge a route through Belgium, The Netherlands and a bit of the Ruhr valley to Essen for a celebration of gaming goodness.
On our stand (Hall 5, 5-K110) for the first time at Essen, we will have all three of our Pocket Campaigns games - The Cousins' War, The Ming Voyages, and The March of Progress. Plus we have the first edition of Tony Boydell's Lux Aeterna. I will also be bringing a prototype of our next game in the Pocket Campaigns series: The War of the 3 Sanchos, designed by David J Mortimer, for 1 to 3 players, set in 11th century Spain.
As you'll probably already know, I am the developer for the new edition of Kingmaker by Gibsons Games. Kingmaker, the Royal Re-Launch is currently on Kickstarter (and has funded!). The Kickstarter campaign will be live throughout Spiel '22. So, naturally, I will have a copy of the near-final-artwork prototype on display.
If you can make to Essen, our team very much look forward to meeting you some time 6 October to 9 October. Please do drop by our stand in Hall 5, 5-K110.

While on https://mgacasino14.de earlier, I was thinking about how much behind-the-scenes logistics goes into getting physical games to a convention—shipping stock ahead is smart, but the prototype of War of the 3 Sanchos with its 1-3 player count is what caught my eye. That's a tricky player range to balance, especially for a wargame, so I'd love to see how the design handles it. Hope the drive through the Ruhr valley is smoother than the Dunkirk dunes reference suggests.
